Motorists are advised of changed traffic conditions in NorthConnex next week for scheduled maintenance. The tunnels will close on two nights, between 10pm and 5am on Monday 14 and Tuesday 15 December 2020, weather permitting.

A Transport for NSW spokesperson said the maintenance is needed to conduct routine checks of the safety and operating systems within the 9 kilometre tunnel.

“It’s been six weeks since Sydney’s newest tunnel opened to traffic and the planned closure is part of a regular maintenance program for the tunnel to conduct checks on the safety and operating systems within the tunnel. The work will be carried out while most of Sydney is sleeping and when there is less traffic on the road, to minimise disruption.”

“For workers’ safety traffic changes will include a full closure of the NorthConnex Tunnel for travel in both northbound and southbound directions.”

  • Motorists can detour via Pennant Hills Road to join the M1 at Wahroonga or M2 at West Pennant Hills.
  • Heavy vehicles will not be fined for using Pennant Hills Road during the closures.
  • Electronic message signs and traffic control signs will alert road users of the changes to traffic conditions.
  • Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.

Motorists and the community are thanked for their patience during this important work.
