Motorists are advised NorthConnex will be temporarily closed from 10pm, Sunday 2 May to 5am, Friday 7 May, and from 10pm, Sunday 9 May to 5am, Friday 14 May 2021, for scheduled night maintenance works. It’s part of a planned program of scheduled and routine operational maintenance activities to ensure all the safety systems and features are well-maintained and working, to keep everyone safe.
Just like your car needs a regular service, tunnels get a regular tune-up to keep everything in good working order. Workers will be completing preventative maintenance activities including cleaning lights, signs, CCTV cameras, drainage systems as well as testing more than 140 fans and ventilation systems and the water deluge system.
The closures will take place at night, when most of Sydney is sleeping to minimise disruption to motorists.
Overhead variable messages and traffic control signs will alert road users of changes to traffic conditions. Motorists can detour via Pennant Hills Road to join the M1 at Wahroonga or M2 at West Pennant Hills.
Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions and follow the directions of signs and traffic control.
Heavy vehicles will not be fined for using Pennant Hills Road during the closures.
NorthConnex, Sydney’s newest motorway, is the ‘Next Gen’ in road tunnels, designed to the highest safety standards, and built and fitted with the latest technology to keep motorists safe.
Overhead variable messages and traffic control signs will alert road users of changes to traffic conditions.
